A quick guide to identifying the big SIX Bumblebees you're most likely to see in and around your garden.

When I’m pottering about in my garden or walking the dogs near Chichester, either along the coast, in the woodlands or along the South Downs Way, I’m often disturbing a snoozing bumblebee in the grass or a pile of dried leaves or one might bumble gentle by and, until this year, my identification skills had been somewhat lacking until I discovered a really handy 'Quick Guide to Identifying Bumblebees’.

It has been produced as part of an ongoing and extensive research project being carried out at the Natural History Museum since 2006. It is available as a PDF download, that can be saved to your computer or printed-off onto photography paper and kept in your wallet, purse or pocket at all times - all I need now is a magnifying glass, a net and a large funny hat!
